2004 - Series 2

Strictly Come Dancing returned for its second series on 23 October 2004 on BBC One. Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly returned to present the main show on BBC One, while Claudia Winkleman presented a new spin-off show called Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two on BBC Two. Series 1 winner Natasha Kaplinsky filled in for Daly during the first five weeks due to Daly's maternity leave.

2004 - Series 2 facts and stats

  • 10 dance styles were performed in the first 2 Series of Strictly, with the couples performing one of 2 different dances (1 Ballroom, 1 Latin) in the first 4 weeks, and all dancing Samba in W5. Styles included: Cha Cha Cha, Waltz, Quickstep, Rumba, Jive, Tango, Paso Doble, Foxtrot, Samba and Showdance
  • Two Sambas were danced in the S2 Final by Denise & Ian (33) and Julian & Erin (23); only 1 other Series has seen 2 Samba routines in a Final and that was S4 (Mark & Karen, 26; Matt & Lilia, 31)
  • Strictly’s first ever 40 was awarded to Jill & Darren for their Jive to “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John in the Final
  • Denise Lewis (dancing with Ian) was the only other contestant to receive any 10s; Bruno & Arlene awarded the top score for their Final Quickstep performance
  • Throughout Strictly’s first two Series, no male celebrity was awarded a 10
  • Claudia begins her Strictly career presenting It Takes Two on BBC2
