2017 - Series 15 facts and stats

  • Series 15, won by Joe & Katya, is the only Series where 6 couples had an average individual score under 5; these were Brian & Amy (4.95), Ruth & Anton (4.94), Chizzy & Pasha (4.63), Simon & Karen (4.61), Charlotte & Brendan (4.38) and Rev Richard & Dianne (4.0). Of recent Series, it is the lowest scoring because of this group and with an overall series average individual score of 7.21, only 4 Series fare worse on this stat and they are all from the early years (S7, S3, S2 and S1)
  • Despite being lower-scoring, S15 has the highest average viewing figures (according to Wikipedia) with 11.14 million viewers on average tuning in each week; this makes it the show’s most watched Series ever
  • Debbie McGee becomes the celebrity with the earliest awarded perfect score when she dances a Tango with Giovanni in Week 7; she’ll retain this record for 3 years until HRVY & Janette dance a perfect Couple’s Choice in Week 6 of S18
  • Debbie, along with Tasha in S22, are the only two celebrities to achieve 7 tens in the first 7 weeks; Debbie danced a 39-scoring Charleston in Halloween Week, followed by her perfect Tango in Week 7 whilst Tasha earned 3 tens for her Week 4 Charleston, 3 for her Week 7 Couple’s Choice and 1 ten for her Halloween Week Samba
  • Shirley joins as Head Judge, and awards 27 tens in her first year – this is 2 less than Bruno that year. Her first ten went to Alexandra & Gorka for their W4 Jive, and Shirley went on to award every one of S15’s Final dances a ten, as did Bruno
  • Winning aged 42 makes Joe the oldest champion since Chris Hollins won in S7 aged 38; 3 years later Bill Bailey will win aged 55, making him the oldest winner and when Chris McCausland won in S22 he took the second spot for this stat as the second oldest winner at 47
  • Runner-up Alexandra is awarded 32 tens which places her first ranked celebrity on this stat, overtaking Ricky Whittle’s longstanding record of 28 tens from S7 back in 2009. The following year she will have to share this top spot with Ashley Roberts, who receives 32 tens in S16; 6 years later Tasha Ghouri will knock them off the top spot as she picks up 33 tens in S22
