2012 - Series 10 facts and stats
- With a single point separating the last 3 Finalists (Louis & Flavia – 118, Kimberley & Pasha – 118, Denise & James – 119), the judges’ leaderboard was the tightest Strictly had seen and S10 remains one of the closest-fought contests ever (though in S19 Rose & Giovanni and John & Johannes were tied on 119 points each)
- The London Olympics year saw two successful British medallists competing; Victoria Pendleton had won Gold and Silver medals in the summer, and winner Louis Smith had taken Silver and Bronze medals before topping the year off by claiming Strictly’s top trophy
- Format tweaks continued apace; the dance-off (which had been discarded for S8 & S9) was revived; a one-off dance fusion Quarter-Final replaced the previous Movie Night theme as the latter moved to week 3 and was renamed ‘Hollywood Week’; week 7 involved a ‘Dance Through the Decades’ special from Wembley Arena in front of an audience of 6,000
- We had to wait until the Wembley Arena show in week 7 for the first tens to be awarded; there were 3 for Denise & James’s ‘Walk Like An Egyptian’ Charleston. Week 7 is the latest week for the first ten of a Series to be awarded, and it was the week seeing the first ten in Series 2 and 6 as well
- The S10 Final sees the first ever perfect Tango – danced by Kimberley & Pasha to ‘When Doves Cry’ by Prince; they had danced a perfect Tango – Cha Cha Cha Fusion routine just 2 weeks earlier in the Quarter-Final
