2015 - Series 13 facts and stats

  • 42 tens awarded across 141 dances makes S13 one of the lowest scoring and its 3 perfect routines place it joint 16th on this stat, with just five series with fewer and every Series since including at least 5 perfect performances
  • Nonetheless, setting scores aside S13 includes possibly the most memorable dance in Strictly history, and certainly the coolest; Jay & Aliona’s W3 Pulp Fiction Jive (which scored 37 and topped the Movie Week leaderboard) has had 8.3 million YouTube plays and is cited by many fans as the best dance the show has ever seen
  • Jay & Aliona’s Jive – which only Bruno awarded a ten – remained the highest scoring Movie Week dance until Kelvin & Oti’s Mary Poppins’ Charleston in S17 scored 38 and the current record holder is John & Johannes’ Pirates of the Caribbean Paso Doble in S19 which scored 39
  • S13 sees the arrival of 3 new pro dancers, including two future champions: Giovanni, Gleb and Oti
  • Giovanni’s reign as the King of Halloween begins in his first series; he tops the leaderboard with Georgia dancing a Ghostbusters-themed Tango (35), and will top the spooky spectacle for the following four years straight, a dominance interrupted in S18 when the special was omitted, only to be resumed in S19 when he topped again with Rose, achieving the joint earliest Strictly perfect score in Week 6 (matching HRVY & Janette’s in S18)
  • Jamelia & Tristan endure five dance-offs, the most by any couple ever; they survive four but are eliminated in W9 after dancing a Quickstep at Blackpool, losing out to Peter & Janette
  • Thankfully, S13 sees the show’s format finally settle into the regular theme week pattern still currently used: with Movie Week in Week 3, Halloween Week in Week 6, Blackpool in Week 8 or 9, and Musicals Week held at the Quarter-Final stage
