2018 - Series 16 facts and stats

  • 9 perfect scores are awarded in S16, the most ever in a single Series (since matched in S19 and S22)
  • Ashley & Pasha receive 5 perfect scores which is the most ever received by one couple in a Series. These are for: Week 9 Jive in Blackpool; Semi-Final American Smooth; 3 Final dances – Salsa, Showdance and Charleston. They are one of 3 couples in Strictly history to score perfectly in a Final; others to do this are Faye & Giovanni in this Series and Caroline Flack & Pasha in the S12 Final
  • Craig awards 9 tens; this is the most he has handed out in a Series and the only other year he did this was 2024 during Series 22. Bruno awards 34 tens which is the most by one judge in a Series
  • S16 sees the introduction of a new Couple’s Choice dance style, which is selected from three possible genres: Contemporary, Street/Commercial, and Theatre/Jazz. Faye & Giovanni dance the first perfect routine in this style with their Theatre/Jazz performance to Peggy Lee’s ‘Fever’ in the Series Final. The first ever routine is danced in Contemporary style by Lauren & AJ in Week 5 and receives just 24 points. This takes the number of regular dance styles to 16 (its current total)
  • Ashley & Pasha dance a perfect Jive at Blackpool to ‘Shake a Tail Feather’ from The Blue Brothers; this is the 3rd of 4 perfect Jives danced in consecutive Series. S14 Ore & Joanne’s ‘Runaway Baby’ routine scored 40 in the Final; S15 saw Alexandra & Gorka awarded 40 for their dance to ‘Proud Mary; finally in S17 Karim & Amy achieve a ‘double-40’ score for their Hairspray-themed dance
  • Ashley joins Alexandra Burke in terms of ‘Most 10s’ as she also receives 32; they will remain joint first until S22 when Tasha earns 33 tens
  • With 96 tens awarded overall, S16 takes 3rd place on this stat, beaten only by S20 and S22
  • Kevin Clifton wins on his fifth attempt, with Stacey; they receive 16 tens but no perfect total scores. This makes them 1 of 7 couples to win without a perfect routine (others are Natasha & Brendan, S1; Darren & Lilia, S3; Alesha & Matthew, S5; Tom & Camilla, S6; Kara & Artem, S8; Jay & Aliona, S13)
  • In Week 5, Alfonso Ribeiro stood in as a guest judge for Bruno; this was after he had won the 19th season of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ in the US (2014), and since 2023 he has been the main host on the show in the States
