2021 - Series 19 facts and stats

  • The 9 perfect scores in S19 were awarded to 5 different couples: Rose & Giovanni (4), John & Johannes (2), Rhys & Nancy (1), AJ & Kai (1), Tilly & Nikita (1). This is the only time 5 different couples have scored at least one 40 in a Series
  • Nine 40s is the most in a Series; S16 and S22 also saw 9 perfect scores. On average individual judge score and average total dance score, S19 is 5th overall
  • Giovanni wins with Rose on his fourth attempt as she becomes Strictly’s first deaf contestant
  • Couple’s Choice routines are no longer restricted to one of three genres but can be danced in any style (previously they had been either Street/Commercial, Theatre/Jazz or Contemporary)
  • Despite scoring one 40, Tilly & Nikita never received a ten from Craig; this is because their W9 Matilda Couple’s Choice was scored by guest judge Cynthia Erivo, who stood in for Craig that week (she also replaces Motsi the following week). This is the only show Craig has missed as a judge in 20 years and means there are just 7 competitive couple routines he has not judged
  • With Blackpool Week again omitted due to Covid restrictions, Musicals Week moved from Quarter-Final week to W9, when musical theatre star Cynthia Erivo replaced Craig as judge
  • Rose & Giovanni match HRVY & Janette’s S18 record when they receive 40 in Week 6 for the earliest awarded perfect score; theirs is still the only 40 Halloween week has seen
  • Anton joins as a permanent judge, replacing Bruno;with Craig and Tess, he remains one of the three people who have featured in every Series since 2004
  • Due to the withdrawal of Robert Webb & Dianne after W3 and the injury to AJ Odudu after the Semi-Final, only 2 couples competed for the glitterball (Rose & Giovanni and John & Johannes) for the first time since S7 (Chris & Ola and Ricky & Natalie). Series 19 and 21 are the only ones where two couples withdrew (in S21 Amanda & Giovanni and Nigel & Katya both withdraw)
