  • Can past Strictly Halloween dance stats foretell the future?
Graphic: Crystal ball with ballroom dancers in it

The answer is ‘Probably not’ but for a little bit of fiendish fun, we’ve checked how past performances of this week’s Halloween dances have scored with the judges in previous spooky specials.

Here we show all Halloween dances performed to date ordered by average judges’ score – they’re ranked from lowest (Rumba) to highest (Tango). Some dances have been performed a lot (21 Pasos, 18 Tangos) and others haven’t (1 Waltz), so it’s worth remembering this when looking at the average score for each dance. BTW, averages are rounded to the nearest whole number.

Gazing into the StrictlyDB crystal ball, we see there may be challenges ahead for those dancing the Rumba, Salsa and Cha Cha Cha on Saturday (the 3 dances with the lowest average Halloween week scores) whilst it’s possible more leaderboard success awaits those with a Tango, Couple’s Choice, Quickstep, Charleston or Argentine Tango.

It’s worth mentioning that disappointingly the petrifying Paso Doble –  the most performed Halloween Week dance ever – will not make an appearance on Saturday night. It was surprisingly missing from Movie Week too seeing as it’s a dramatic dance well-suited to a Strictly theme week. Fingers crossed we’ll see more Pasos in the coming weeks.

Of course, any predicting is just a lot of hocus pocus as we all know its performances on the night that count but if – by a little black magic – a Tango tops the leaderboard and a Rumba is somewhere at the bottom, don’t say we didn’t see it in the tea leaves (or statistics)!
